Native American border

Risk of Cancer:

Very high if you use chew, use snuff, or smoke commerical tobacco products.

Type of Use:
  • Chewing tobacco in any form.
  • Using snuff in any form.
  • Smoking cigarettes, pipes, hookahs or cigars.
  • Smoking bidis.
Benefits:No benefits to the user, but the big tobacco companies make billions a year off other people's addictions.
Special Notes:

Some people chew or smoke because they believe that it helps them relax, control their weight, and concentrate better. Other people do it to be cool, for an image, or to keep from being bored. Peer pressure results in many new smokers.

American Spirit tobacco pouchesChewing tobacco gives your mouth an unpleasant odor and bad breath. Chewing leads to gum disease, tooth decay, addiction to tobacco, and cancer of the mouth and throat. It removes oxygen from your blood and replaces it with carbon monoxide, a deadly gas. Nicotine in any form causes cholesterol and heart disease.

Commercial Tobacco

Smoking commercial tobacco will NOT:

  • make you slim
  • help you handle stress
  • help you make friends
  • help you save money
  • make you look cool

With the help of Commercial Tobacco:

  • You will have less money.
  • You will become winded easily.
  • Your skin will wrinkle at an early age.
  • Your fingernails will be stained yellow.
  • Your clothes, hair and breath will stink.

And last but not least, the 4000-plus chemicals you put in your body will take a toll. Almost 70 of these chemicals are known to cause cancer. Add to that list heart disease, low birth weight, loss of teeth, diabetes complications, asthma, loss of smell and taste, inner ear infections, cavities, erectile dysfunction, loss of circulation, higher risk of stroke, stained teeth, and ulcers.

Our people wish to keep the use of tobacco sacred. It’s our medicine. It’s what our ancestors believed and so should we. Say this to yourself;

Tobacco is a medicine.
It is a gift from the Creator.
It is sacred, it should not be misused.
It is a medicine for healing.”
